Fire Safety

On Friday we had firefighters from the Georgetown Fire Station come in and talk about the basics of fires. There were over 10,000 fires in Michigan last year and 1,379 of those fires were started by kids playing with matches, lighters or candles. To protect your family, it is important that you have working smoke detectors. Please change the batteries two times per year and if your smoke detector is more than 10 years old please throw it away and replace it with a new one. Also, please discuss a fire escape plan with your child(ren) and a meeting place like your mailbox or a neighbor’s house. The video we watched showing a real house fire, in a controlled setting, made it clear how quickly a fire can spread and that fire is dark, not light (because of the smoke). We are thankful to the Georgetown firefighters for visiting us and for helping to keep our community safe each day!
